Discrimination, Prejudice Rife in UK Workplace
A poll of 500 businesses leaders, commissioned by Shaw Trust, shows British employees with mental health conditions are being failed by UK businesses, from recruitment though to on-the-job support. The poll, funded by Time to Change reveals that mental health discrimination and prejudice are still rife within the workplace, yet 1 in 6 workers experience mental health issues at any one time. The result is British businesses are failing to retain a diverse and effective workforce. Sally Burton , Chief Executive of Shaw Trust, said ‘ Levels of prejudice and misunderstanding are alarmingly high, yet emotional and practical support remains low or often non-existent. If is time to break this last workplace taboo once and for all.
